These faults, with reverse components that have interactive relationships with each other, form high relief structures. Moreover, the lengths of the F1, F2, F3, and F4 faults are 31, 17, 8, and 38 km, respectively. The F1 and F2 reverse faults have southward dips, while the F3 and F4 reverse faults have northward dips. The northern Birjand mountain range is characterized by four main reverse faults with ~EвЂ“W striking: F1вЂ“F4. In the northern Birjand mountain range, several ~EвЂ“W striking faults cut through geological units geometric and kinematic analyses of these faults indicate that almost all faults have main reverse components, which reveals the existing compressional stress in the study area.

Furthermore, field evidence was analyzed in order to assess the structural type and deformation mechanism of the research area. In this paper, faults, one of the most important causes of geohazards, were investigated from a kinematic and geometric viewpoint in the northern part of the Sistan suture zone (SSZ), which serves as the boundary between the Afghan and Lut blocks. We propose that evaluation of tectonic inheritance will help explain variations in Andean structural styles that do not bear simple relationships to the history of plate convergence, subduction, and magmatism along the western margin of South America. (4) Thermal structure in the form of initial temperature conditions and later thermal perturbations (such as cooling/heating episodes related to arc magmatism, subducting slab dynamics, or lithospheric removal) can promote inboard advance or outboard retreat of deformation. (3) Rheological properties guide the activation of new structures by means of the integrated strength, rock and mineral composition, fluid content and pressure, and associated mechanical heterogeneities and anisotropies that define crustal and lithospheric architecture. (2) Stratigraphic inheritance is exemplified by the preferential localization of interconnected thin-skinned structures above regional dГ©collements developed in wedge-shaped stratigraphic packages versus isolated basement-involved thick-skinned fault structures formed in provinces with limited cover strata. (1) Structural inheritance involves the reactivation of preexisting faults or basement fabrics and accompanying inversion of sedimentary basins. In assessing the controls on structural style, we emphasize the importance of precursor conditions and employ the concept of tectonic inheritance to identify four factors that influence Andean deformation. Here we summarize retroarc structural styles within the Andean orogenic belt and foreland basin system through consideration of regional contractional fault geometries, their kinematic interactions with other structures, and the comparative involvement of crystalline basement and sedimentary cover rocks. This new exhumation data show how the Late Cretaceous to Paleocene event was a continuous and uninterrupted deformational event.ДЄndean orogenesis is expressed in the diverse deformational records of crustal structures and sedimentary basins in western South America. Based on this regional structural analysis and the fission track data the precise location of the orogenic front for the Late Cretaceous-Paleocene times is reconstructed and it is proposed a structural evolution of this segment of the Andes. Two main deformational events are defined in Late Cretaceous to Paleocene and Late Miocene times. The results of the fission track analyses improve the knowledge of how these fold and thrust belts have grown trough time. These data was used for new thermal history modeling of the inner part of the Agrio and Chos Malal fold and thrust belts. In order to define a more accurate uplift history, new apatite fission track analyses were carried on selected structures. Three regional structural cross sections were surveyed and balanced using the 2d Moveв„ў software. Based on new field work and structural data and previously published works a detailed map of the central part of the NeuquГ©n basin is presented. This work focuses on the study of the regional structure and the deformational event that shaped the relief of this part of the Andes.

The eastern part is dominated by late Miocene deformation which also partially reactivated the western structures.

Both belts show evidence of tectonic inversion at the western part during Late Cretaceous times. The Chos Malal and Agrio fold and thrust belts are located in the western part of the NeuquГ©n basin, an Andean retroarc basin of central-western Argentina.
